As a mum of two boys, I have received my fair share of playgroup, nursery and school photographs sent home to me for approval before I am expected to part with my hard earned cash. What I am amazed at is how poor the photos are. It is obvious that no time has been taken over them – a quick conveyor belt of children and hey presto, the jobs done. OK, so yes, being a photographer myself I am probably the worst critic, but I am just so fed up with parent’s thinking that this is the norm and it’s OK because ‘well, they are cheap’, and ‘we are only a toddler group’. You are not ‘only’ a toddler group, you are a very important part in a lot of mum’s lives – a lifeline in many cases – so give them the respect they deserve.
Children do not have to be ‘posed’ – or have someone standing there shouting ‘say cheese’ at them. The best photos are those that are natural. So they may be sticking their tongue out!!
but does it really matter? And what about that gorgeous ballet outfit? Why not bring it along too.
We are totally aware that young children have the attention span of a goldfish, but if it is done right, you can get some wonderful results from playgroup and nursery photos. Please don’t just look for the cheapest photographer around, who offers the cheapest products – you will get what you pay for. We photoshop snotty noses, red teething cheeks, dribble, chocolate, etc as standard – before you even see the photos. There are certain aspects of a ‘natural’ photo shoot you don’t necessarily want to see!
I leave you with a selection of photos we have taken recently and hope you like them.
If you are interested in us coming to photograph a toddler or playgroup that you run or attend, please get in touch. We have a fully portable studio which we can bring with us. Our prices are reduced for groups, with a percentage of all sales given to your group.

Photo’s are fab – love some of the expressions you’ve captured. My favourite has to be the thumb in mouth baby – her eyes just draw you in. I came over from the blog carnival.
